Frequently Asked Questions

Below, we’ve compiled some of the most common questions our team receives every day, including, “How often should I see a dentist?” and, “What is the best way to replace my missing teeth?” We’re always willing to answer your questions, so be sure to give us a call if you can’t find what you need on this page.

How often should I see a dentist?

Dr. Lam recommends that patients of all ages should attend at least two checkups and cleanings each year (about one every 6 months). These appointments enable her to find and treat any decay or damage early, and they can go a long way in preventing cavities and gum disease from developing in the first place.

Can I bring my child to Dr. Kathy Lam?

Yes! Our practice is ready to help every smile in Wheaton, so whether you have a toddler or teenager at home, they are always welcome to come see us. Our team really enjoys having children around the office, and we have plenty of kid-focused treatments designed to protect growing smiles from tooth decay. We also take time with younger children to teach them the basics of oral hygiene.

What is the best way to replace my missing teeth?

While this answer will be different from patient to patient, in most cases, our first recommendation would be dental implants. In short, they basically offer the next best thing to natural teeth. They look great, are extremely strong, and they can often last for 30 years or more. Implants can be used to reliably replace any number of missing teeth, and now, you can get them right here in Wheaton with Dr. Lam.

I think I might have a cavity. What should I do?

Is one of your teeth discolored? Is it experiencing a little bit of pain? If so, be sure to give us a call. You won’t be able to treat a cavity on your own, and if you wait, it will only get worse. We can help you fix it in as little as one appointment with a tooth-colored filling, giving you one less thing to worry about.

Can you help with a dental emergency?

Yes! If you or a loved one are experiencing quite a bit of dental pain because of a bad toothache or unexpected accident, go ahead and give us a call. We’ll be happy to see you right away and will schedule an appointment as soon as possible (even the same day).

Will you accept my insurance?

Yes, we welcome all PPO dental insurance plans, and our team will help you get the most out of your benefits at every single visit. To learn more about how we can use your particular plan to help you save, contact us today.
