Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Lam really enjoys helping people, as well as being able to have meaningful one-on-one interactions and personal communication with her patients. She also likes working with her hands! All of these qualities make the dental field a great fit for her strengths and personality.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Lam attended the University of Illinois at Chicago for her bachelors degree, where she was on the Dean’s List and a member of the National Honor Society. She completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery at Howard University College of Dentistry in 2002 and then attended a residency at Waterbury Hospital Health Center in Connecticut, which is where she met her husband (who is also a dentist) for the first time. She later became the Assistant Director for the hospital’s dental clinic. Today, she keeps her skills up-to-date by regularly undergoing continuing education courses through Spear.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

At home, Dr. Lam and her husband have two children. Their son plays golf and the guitar, while their daughter is a gymnast who is also talented at the piano. When she isn’t busy at work, her own personal hobbies include walking in the woods at the forest reserves, reading, sewing, knitting and playing ping pong.
